Summer is predicated as the Summer of '76 but then again we said that last year. But let's think positive. Economic climate not so good as last year but the primroses and daffs are blooming and it all makes things look better - well at least on the surface. The Hare Inn is fully prepared for the supposedly hot summer ahead. With a delicious new light lunch/appetiser menu as well as our Daily Specials Board of Fresh Fish, Meat and Poultry Specials as devised and created by our Award Winning chef Geoff Smith. We also have a blackboard of a budget lunch per day Tues-Sat and have a couple of Vegetarian options per day, apart from what's on our extensive menu. We welcome children and we offer smaller, simpler dishes from our menus for them. We also cater for special requests. Enjoy a Glass of Prosecco or Pimms with Lemonade or Ginger Ale in our Front Garden- it's not to be missed! Just want a Light Bite? No problem, we offer Sirloin of Rare Roast Beef Sandwiches or a bowl of Home-Made Soup apart from our other delicious Appetizers. We all look forward to seeing you soon!

We have all been very busy praying for the "white stuff" to stay away and seems to be working, with the exception of last Saturday where we had a minimal blanket of snow but it was gone by the next day. Didn't put too many people off though.
Geoff the Chef has been busy developing yet another new flavour of Souffle, namely Smoked Haddock and Spinach - absolutely delicious as agreed by all that consumed them. The new Smoked Salmon and Dill is now in production alongside the famous twice baked Cheddar Cheese Souffle with Yorkshire Blue Cheese and Chive and the extremely yummy Chocolate Souffle hot on its heels.
Geoff and Jan are busy preparing for the forthcoming International Food Exhibition being held at ExCel in London from 13th - 16th March 2011 - so if you are reading this and want to pop along for a few samples, invites are available with us at the Hare Inn.
We had a super Valentine Romantic Supper - seems romance was not lost in the air considering it was a Monday Night. Next it seems is a rather late Mothering Sunday to which we are working on 2 rather special cocktails for Mum and then 2 weeks later, it's Easter. Where does time go?
So we will leave you all with the new "hot off the press" pack shot of the new range of Smithy's Souffles (visit our website www.smithyssouffles.co.uk for more details if required) to which the current range will be launched at the I.F.E. as mentioned earlier and then available to you!

So business as usual. Thanks to a local farmer for digging out our carpark as promised last week - thanks Jim - we are back in business! Although we have been quiet, we have had our first Xmas party last night and have the Hornsea Walking Club Annual Xmas Dinner on Sunday.
Our roads are perfectly clear for those who are unsure and we look forward to seeing you this weekend
Oh and thanks to Carr House Farm for the lovely Souffle comment! And yes they are available at The Hare Inn, plus Wettons, Lewis & Cooper and Coopers at Leyburn as well as other local Farm Shops and Delis.

We all love the Snow don't we? And the Hare Inn always looks unbelievably pretty in this weather (as you can see). However, if only the British people could cope with all this white stuff. We are too afraid to venture from our homes. Its amazing in this part of the world with so many 4WDs about, that more people don't.
The road to our little village is actually OK without having to drive down in a tractor but it has been a mighty task ensuring the road remains gritted and maintained with snow ploughs but the local Farmers are doing a good job.
Now all we have to do is move the ton of snow from our car-park and we will be back in business. Yes, sadly we have had to close since Tuesday but its all slowly thawing and all things being well, chefs, staff and ovens will be fired up tomorrow and you can all warm your cockles with our 2 crackling log fires whilst having a bite to eat and a warming glass of Hare Inn mulled wine. After all, it's nearly Christmas!
See you over the weekend!

Geoff Smith (now nicknamed Smithy), is definitely now a Man on the North Yorkshire Map. Not only for his award winning menus but being the creator of the delicatable famous twice-baked cheddar cheese souffle.
After taking twenty years (and some!) perfecting these delicious appetizers/light lunches, Geoff and his business partner Jan, have now launched these delicious fluffy souffles into the local market farmshops and delicatessents. Think how you will pride yourselves at dinner parties (by hiding the packaging!!). Only 15 mins into a hot oven and voila..! .... a perfect Souffle. Your guests will be so impressed! But so will you at the perfection in taste as well as the perfect presentation!
We are out and around North Yorkshire demonstrating the user friendliness of the product - last week Lewis & Cooper, Wettons in Harrogate and this week we are at the Living North Xmas Fair (Gt. Yorkshire Showground) on Friday 26th, Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th November. Geoff will be demonstating how to make the perfect souffle on Saturday at 2pm. So check out our stall!
These fluffy souffles were of course launched from the Hare Inn and as well as being a permanent item on our a la carte menu, they are available to buy from us as well from this weekend.
However, there is no stopping Mr Smith - he is not only busy in our kitchen preparing meals but is busy developing further flavours of his unique souffle. For example, flavours like Salmon & Dill, yorkshire blue and the very much sought after Chocolate version ...... watch this space for a unique Souffle Pudding AND of course for weekly happenings at The Hare and next time, with photos!!
